That's very unfortunate. Hopefully the crew member is alright? Hopefully things will go better next time.

Unfortunatley Alan did not get to do his swim this morning as a Crew member on board the boat fell and sustained head injuries. The Coastguard ordered the boat to return.

Alan and this support crew are heading home today and will return again next week where they hope the swim will go ahead (weather permitting)

The Channel Swim - Alan Smith

Post by Helly on Wed Sep 29, 2010 3:06 am

I got an email and text message from some of the guys travelling over with Alan Smith re. his Channel Swim attempt. It looks like he will be swimming at 2am on Thursday morning.

Email from Colm Breathnach
Alan has confirmed his pilot has given a thumbs up for a Wednesday night / Thursday morning start. Conditions were perfect in the channel today, so Alan and his support crew are waiting for his turn to go and hoping the wind doesn't pick up too much in the meantime. I'll be travelling over on Wednesday to complete the crew and to help with the final preparations.

If all goes well with the onboard IT department, i'll have updates on Alans facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000194393819&ref=ts) as he makes his way across

As Maura has said, he is swimming for the Solas Centre(http://www.solascentre.ie/) and donations can be made for this worthwhile cause via http://www.mycharity.ie/event/alanschannel_swim

I'm sure you will join me in wishing Alan a safe and successful swim.

So, c'mon Alan, keep the head down and the arms turning til you hit the beach.
